BookBot takes books to the library instead of readers March 18, 2019 | 11:00 / Interesting information

Experimental division of Google Area 120 introduced the BookBot robot, which helps residents of the California city of Mountain View in time to return books to the library.

According to the developer Christian Bersh, a pilot project will show what difficulties a robot can face on the street.

He will drive around the city at a certain distance from the city library and collect books that need to be handed over. BookBot is open only on Thursdays from 11 am to 20 pm and can carry up to ten books at a time.

The project will be tested for nine months and a human will accompany the first six robots. He will monitor the work of BookBot, help him in case of difficulties and monitor the reaction of people. By the end of testing, the robot will be controlled remotely.

The director of the city library, Tracy Gray, hopes that the robot will help people with travel restrictions, time constraints or other circumstances to return books on time and use the library's services.
