The first 5G cinema in the world opened in Oslo February 15, 2019 | 04:15 / Technological innovations

The Norwegian mobile operator Telia launched the first cinema in the world in Oslo together with the Odeon cinema center, which shows films transmitted to the screen via the 5G network.

As part of testing, Telia experienced the possibility of replacing the 4G network and broadband Internet with the 5G format to transmit high-quality video images. Telia notes that the testing went well, despite the fact that they eventually used 5G mainly to transfer movies to their servers.

Telia managed to achieve video transfer speeds for broadcasting more than 2.2 Gbit / s - up to 20 times the bandwidth of conventional 4G networks.

Classic 4G without any problems copes with the broadcast of 720p video clips. To download movies in 4K resolution, movie theaters need broadband Internet or networks with high bandwidth systems - 5G can become similar.
