Ai-Da humanoid robot with artificial intelligence will draw people February 13, 2019 | 11:09 / Technological innovations

The British company Engineered Arts has developed a robot artist Ai-Da. Thanks to the artificial intelligence, a humanoid robot recognizes facial features and draws people.

According to Aiden Meller, an expert on contemporary art, Ai-Da is the first robot artist in the world who can draw like people. While the robot is able to make sketches with a pencil, but in the future will be able to draw and paint.

According to the creators of Ai-Da, she will have a torso from a RoboThespian robot. She will be able to actively move, as well as speak and answer questions.

Cameras are built into every Ai-Da eye. Thus, using computer vision, a robot can recognize facial features and recreate emotions. Moreover, Ai-Da is able to establish eye contact and monitor the movements of a person. If you get too close to the robot, Ai-Da will move away and blink.

The Ai-Da head will be created like the head of a realistic Mesmer robot from Engineered Arts. The robot artist will have a mixed appearance with dark hair, and her teeth and gums will be printed on a 3D printer.

Ai-Da will present its Unsecured Futures exhibition in May at Oxford University, and its sketches will be exhibited in London in November.
