Excessive use of social networks is changing the work of the brain, discovered by neurologists January 16, 2019 | 10:02 / Interesting information

Problems with decision making are often observed among gamers and drug addicts. According to scientists at the University of Michigan, a similar situation is with people who use social networks a lot. In practice, this means that people who are addicted to social networks and drug addicts/gamers sometimes cannot draw conclusions from their experience, from their mistakes, and continue to follow a path with a negative outcome.

In the latter study, researchers observed 71 volunteers. Experts appreciate the psychological dependence on Facebook. They asked volunteers about the frequency of using the social network, about their feelings if the social network cannot be used, about the impact of Facebook on work or school.

Volunteers were also offered to perform a standard psychological task to assess the ability to make decisions. To successfully complete the task, it was necessary to select the most profitable deck of cards. It turned out that the more a person used the social network, the worse he could make a correct forecast and successfully complete the task. Similar results were observed previously in people with narcotic and other forms of addiction.
