It is known that on June 22, 2018 at the Institute of Information Technologies of ANAS a meeting was held on "Role of GEANT network in integration of Azerbaijan science and education into Europe". An agreement was signed on cooperation between the Institute of Information Technology and the Department for Informatization of the Education System of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The meeting aimed at presenting the opportunities of the EaPConnect project and contribution to the integration of science and education in Azerbaijan. The agreement envisages the effective use of the European Union's EaPConnect project, enhancing cooperation with European science and education institutions in the country, ensuring the integration of science and education in Azerbaijan, joining the GEANT Network within the EaPConnect project, provision of broadband network services to the country's higher education institutions.

In order to discuss the issues arising from these proposals, on 27 July, the meeting was held at the Institute of Information Technologyof ANAS with the director of Azerbaijan Education Network (AzEduNet) Natig Yahyaev, the executive director Renat Vitkalov and the sales and marketing director Fariz Musayev Technical Directorof the Institute, Doctor of Philosophy, Associate Professor Rashid Alakbarov, Chief Specialist of the Institute Babek Nabiyev and Tural Mustafayev attended the event.

At first R. Alakbarov said that the AzScienceNet science network has great potential for integration of science and education in the country, and noted that cooperation between the ANAS and the Ministry of Education was established in this direction. He noted that, along with the scientific research institutes of ANAS, the educational institutions of the country have the opportunity to benefit from the services of AzScienceNet and the Data Center.

Speaking about AzScienceNet's efforts to integrate into the international scientific environment, the Deputy Director noted that in this regard, the institute joined GEANT, which serves all European scientific and educational institutions: “AzScienceNet has represented our country in the GEANT Association and its projects in more than 40 countries and have established partnerships with them. “

According to R. Alakbarov, as a result of the integration between the AzScienceNet and AzEduNet networks, scientists and specialists of universities and other educational institutions of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, PhD students have been provided with a wide range of services provided by the GEANT network.

Noting that 13 higher education institutions of our country are joining AzScienceNet network, the deputy director noted that the work in this direction is being continued in other universities. The scientist pointed out that measures have been taken to enable IP universities to access high-speed Internet access within the network of GEANT within the framework of the above mentioned works, including fiber-optic communication channels, virtual computing resources, Cloud Computing and other services.

Executive Director of AzEduNet R.Vitkalov emphasized that significant measures are being implemented in our country in the field of improving the quality of education, informing the education system and developing the ICT infrastructure with the use of modern information and communication technologies.

He also highlighted the importance of establishing cooperation with GEANT, saying that joining GEANT through the AzScienceNet network has a great role in increasing the efficiency of scientific research conducted at Azerbaijani educational institutions.

At the end, discussions were held, many questions were answered.
