On November 30, a seminar on "The role of higher education in innovation" was held at the Economic Reforms Analysis and Communication Center with the mission of World Bank's on  the higher education sector. The seminar was attended by representatives of state agencies, universities and research institutions. The head of department of the Institute of Information Technologies of ANAS, PhD in economics, associate professor  Alovsat Aliyev also attended the event.

Opening the event, Executive Director of the Center for Economic Reforms Analysis and Communication Vusal Gasimli said that innovation-driven development was highlighted in the Strategic Roadmap: "The main goal is to develop science-education-business ecosystems and labor resources in line with global and local trends. Development of innovative entrepreneurship in Azerbaijan should be in line with the needs of global markets ". He also noted that institutional coordination according to the world practice is possible in the country innovation policy.

The seminar was conducted in several directions. The current state of the research, the funding for the research has caused great interest of the participants In the  discussions on global trends review on Scientific research funding.  The event also covered global trends in the environment of technology transfer in Azerbaijan. It was noted that the introduction of intellectual property system in Azerbaijan, stimulating factors for commercialization and establishment of relations with the private sector are important factors for the development of this sphere.

Representative of the World Bank, Ivona Borovik, informed about the skills development, entrepreneurship promotion and management of the innovation system.

In the «Innovative Development: Azerbaijan's Perspective" section of the seminar, Representative of ANAS High Technology Park Vusal Suleymanli on "The role of higher education in innovation", Representative of Azerbaijan State Economic University Anar Rzayev  on " Promotion of  Research and Innovation in Higher Education", Head of Cocoon Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center Imran Bagirov on "Cocoon  Experience for Increasing the Probability of Startups" made reports.

At the end of the discussions, the development of market-related skills in Azerbaijan, areas where the highest skill is lacking, the existing mechanisms promoting entrepreneurship, their effectiveness and areas of activity were at the center of attention. Associate Professor of the Institute Alovsat Aliyev participated in the discussions and made relevant proposals.
