The first Martian home can print on a 3D printer right on the spot February 23, 2017 | 02:32 / Interesting information

It is known that the delivery to Mars of each kilogram of payload costs a lot of money – more than $ 100,000, despite the fact that the transport capabilities of the spacecraft are very limited. It is not surprising that already many years before the intended start of the first Mars mission scientists scratching their heads, what you can save.

Researchers at NASA and the University of Central Florida proposed a solution to the “housing question” the first Martian settlers by building houses of “local” materials of the Martian soils, which will be made “ink” for building a 3D printer.

The dwelling will be constructed from regolith, which is melted in a special chamber at a temperature of 1650 °C, and then subjected to electrolysis. This will allow to extract the desired metals and vital oxygen.

The molten metal then can be used as a component of “ink” for a 3D printer to print parts of the Martian houses, like the concept in the form of a needle, techcult.ru reports.

It should be noted that the use in the construction technology of 3D printing is not new. So in Dubai (UAE) built several office buildings and Chinese companies offer to build 10 houses printed in a day.
