The 4th International Scientific-Practical Conference on "Artificial Intelligence Technologies and Aerospace Problems," organized by the National Aviation Academy (NAA), was held. Speaking at the event, Academician Rasim Alguliyev, Vice-President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) and Director General of the Institute of Information Technology under the Ministry of Science and Education, emphasized the significance of the international conference. He highly praised the intellectual potential of the NAA, along with its efforts toward establishing sustainable ties between science, education, and industry, fostering the widespread implementation of AI technologies, and training highly qualified young professionals.
The scientist, noting that AI technologies had now become one of the main driving forces of global development, stated that consistent and systematic measures were being implemented in this field in the country and that important state programs, strategies, and other strategic legal and regulatory documents had been adopted by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev.
Academician Rasim Alguliyev pointed out that, in accordance with the relevant decree of the Head of State, the establishment of the Digital Development Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan under the chairmanship of the country's First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva was of strategic importance: "The main purpose of establishing the Council is to form a digital state infrastructure that meets the new architectural requirements based on artificial intelligence, to create a unified digital platform with high performance indicators, and to ensure harmonious development across all sectors of society." According to the academician, this process is also of particular importance in terms of strengthening national cybersecurity, thereby ensuring the country's cyber sovereignty and protecting state interests in the online environment.
The Vice-President of ANAS noted that one of the main goals of the state policy pursued in the field of digital development in the country is the formation of a scientifically grounded national data ecosystem. Emphasizing that ensuring data sovereignty is one of the most important challenges of our time, the academician stressed that the management, integration, and efficient use of data collected in various fields of activity, such as healthcare, aviation, transport, etc., based on unified principles and requirements, as well as the formation of a corresponding data ecosystem, are of particular importance.
Academician Rasim Aliguliyev pointed out that, based on the effective interaction of relevant state institutions, a national cybersecurity ecosystem with centralized coordination and governed by unified principles is currently being formed in our country. Emphasizing that ensuring the comprehensive security, including cybersecurity, of aerospace systems is of particular relevance, the scientist stated that in the modern era these systems are exposed to a wide variety of cyber threats. For this reason, conducting comprehensive scientific research aimed at investigating cyberattacks targeting these systems, as well as malicious activities, and taking preventive measures, is among the important issues.
The scientist noted that one of the main priorities defined by the Head of State was also the creation of a national artificial intelligence model. He also emphasized that the issues discussed at the conference fully resonated with these strategic priorities and were of great importance for the implementation of the tasks set forth.
At the end of his speech, Academician Rasim Alguliyev pointed out that training highly qualified specialists to meet global challenges was one of the primary tasks facing the education system. He highlighted the importance of strengthening foundational preparation in mathematics, engineering, and computer science to ensure sustainable development in artificial intelligence, Big Data, cybersecurity, and other strategic areas. The scientist particularly emphasized the necessity of focusing on fields related to mathematical cryptography, quantum cryptography, and other high-technology domains.
