Data Analysis and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory was opened at AMU – VIDEO

The opening ceremony of the Data Analysis and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory was held at Azerbaijan Medical University (AMU).

The ceremony was attended by AMU Rector and Professor Garay Garaybayli, Advisor to the Minister of Health Rufat Hajialibeyov, Vice President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and Director General of the Institute of Information Technology of the Ministry of Science and Education, Academician Rasim Alguliyev, Director General of the Digital Health Center of the Ministry of Health Jabrayil Asadzade, Chairman of the Public Control and Advisory Council of AMU and deputy of the Milli Majlis Ilham Mammadov, university staff, and other guests.

Rector Garay Garaybayli said that artificial intelligence (AI) technologies are applied in all spheres of life, and the application of AI systems in various fields is becoming increasingly relevant and one of the main factors in the transformation of modern medicine. The rector emphasized that according to global trend the artificial intelligence ecosystem has become a priority for public policy in our country. Therefore, the creation of a laboratory focused on artificial intelligence supports the core principles of the state's current strategic line.

Discussing the current challenges and goals associated with artificial intelligence in the country, Adviser to the Minister of Health Rufat Hajialibeyov detailed the important steps taken in this direction and the projects implemented, particularly in the healthcare system. Recalling the objectives outlined in the "National Digital Healthcare Strategy for 2024-2028," he noted the implementation of important projects in this area: the creation of a unified ecosystem, the digitalization of healthcare processes, the improvement of digital governance, etc.

Academician Rasim Alguliev assessed artificial intelligence not only as a technological innovation but also as an important factor determining economic, military, and political superiority and already changing the global balance of power in the modern era. R. Aliguliyev emphasized that the steps taken in Azerbaijan in recent years in this area, particularly the formation of an AI ecosystem, the creation of a favorable infrastructure for the use of these systems, and the development of digital services, are of particular strategic importance.

Deputy of the Milli Majlis Ilham Mammadov emphasized that the use of innovative technologies and artificial intelligence in Azerbaijan has expanded within the framework of the State Strategy for 2025-2028. He recalled the adoption of the "Action Plan for Accelerating the Digital Development of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2026-2028" and the establishment of the Digital Development Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan to improve the effectiveness of digitalization, e-government, artificial intelligence, and innovation.

Then, AMU Vice-Rector Malahat Sultan made a presentation on the goals, scope, and importance of the Data Analysis and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, outlining the center's main objectives.

Afterwards, the guests got acquainted with the Laboratory.

Head of the Department of Medical and Biological Physics at AMU and Director of the Laboratory Ismail Gafarov provided guests with a detailed information.
