AI transforms labor market and society

One of the most debated topics in the world is artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on the labor market. The rapid development of technology is permeating all aspects of our lives, creating new opportunities while simultaneously presenting certain risks. Azerbaijan is also part of this global process. A digitalization policy is being actively implemented in the country, and various projects in the field of innovation and technology are being carried out.

Academician Rasim Alguliyev, Vice-President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) and General Director of the Institute of Information Technology at the Ministry of Science and Education, spoke about this in his statement to the Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC).

The academician stated that AI is impacting the labor market, starting mainly with repetitive and standard jobs. For example, cashier services, data processing, and simple office tasks are already being carried out through AI systems. In the future, this process could also extend to professions requiring high qualifications.

"The digital labor market differs from the traditional market: people can now work on a global scale, new professions emerge, and some lose their relevance. One of the important issues for Azerbaijan is digital security and cybersecurity. The implementation of innovations and the integration of technologies into society occupy a significant place in state policy. The education system is also at the center of this transformation. AI, digital skills, and innovative thinking must be developed in secondary and higher educational institutions. This, in turn, increases the country's competitiveness. Language technologies create new opportunities. AI language technologies reduce language barriers in the labor market. For example, users speaking Azerbaijani can be translated into other languages through systems, and the other party's response is converted back into Azerbaijani. This makes education and employment opportunities more inclusive. Currently, a new collaboration is being formed in society between individuals and AI. AI provides users with the opportunity to acquire knowledge, express themselves, and develop. Consequently, artificial intelligence and high technologies are fundamentally changing the labor market and society. The main issue is to manage these processes correctly, rely on scientific foundations, and develop human potential," the scientist stated.
