An event dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) was held. First, flowers were laid at the bust of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the university’s foyer. At the event, the cherished memory of the sons of the Motherland who sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan was commemorated with a minute of silence. The National Anthem of Azerbaijan was played.
Delivering the opening remarks, AzTU Rector Professor Vilayat Valiyev welcomed the guests and reviewed the 75-year history of the university. He noted that the foundations of technical education in Azerbaijan were first laid on November 10, 1887, by the Baku City Duma. On November 14, 1920, by decree of Nariman Narimanov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Revolutionary Committee, the Baku Polytechnic Institute was established on the basis of the Baku Polytechnicum, which included the Departments of Oil Industry, Electromechanics, and Architecture and Construction, to train highly qualified technical specialists. Since 1923, the Baku Polytechnic Institute has been renamed the Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute. The present-day Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) was reestablished in November 1950 in Baku as the Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute (AzPI) , comprising the Faculties of Mechanics, Construction, Railways, and Hydromelioration.
The Rector stated that for 75 years, AzTU has not only trained engineering specialists but also shaped patriotic individuals. AzTU has always been proud of the achievements of its students and graduates. The active participation of AzTU students and graduates in achieving the glorious victory of the 44-day Patriotic War was a clear indication of their strong patriotic spirit. Professor Vilayat Valiyev stated that guided by the motto “Create, Develop, Apply,” AzTU aims to establish a research and entrepreneurial university with an innovative and initiative-driven academic staff, graduates, and students who address industry development and technological challenges, while raising the level of trained engineering specialists to meet international standards.
Deputy Minister of Science and Education Firudin Gurbanov, conveying his congratulations on AzTU’s 75th anniversary, spoke about the role of universities in shaping individuals. Reviewing global practices in this area, Firudin Gurbanov approached professionalism from a different perspective. He stated that professionalism also entails the ability to make the right decisions in a crisis. Universities play a key role in shaping individuals who possess this ability. In this regard, the role of universities is crucial for personal development. The Deputy Minister also noted the successful achievements of AzTU graduates in various fields across the country. He emphasized that AzTU, currently one of the country’s leading higher education institutions, is among the universities implementing innovations in line with modern standards.
AzTU’s honorary graduate, statesman, diplomat, historian, Doctor of Historical Sciences, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, and former ambassador Hasan Hasanov congratulated his alma mater on its anniversary and shared memories from his university years. Hasan Hasanov, noting that engineering is one of the world’s leading professions, advised students to gain a deep understanding of the secrets of their specialties. He noted that engineering primarily develops a person’s thinking abilities. Hasan Hasanov highlighted that AzTU has been central to his career achievements and expressed his lasting gratitude to the university’s staff.
AzTU’s honorary graduate, Deputy Head of the State Service for Special Communication and Information Security, Major General Allahveran Ismayılov, also extended his congratulations on the university’s 75th anniversary. Allahveran Ismayilov shared his memories from his student years and spoke about the significant role the university played in his personal development.
Rasim Alguliyev, an honorary graduate of AzTU, Vice President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, and Director of the Institute of Information Technology, spoke about the achievements the university has attained over its 75-year history. The academician stated that engineering is a creative profession. He noted that the application of acquired knowledge and its use in solving real-world problems are among the main priorities worldwide. Today, it is the combination of innovation, creativity, and practical skills that shapes the world. In his speech, Rasim Alguliyev also highlighted the achievements of the engineering specialists trained by AzTU. The academic also shared his most memorable experiences from his years of study at the university with the event participants.
Later, Jale Ahmadova, Advisor to the Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, congratulated AzTU on its 75th anniversary. He noted that the ministry and the university jointly implement various projects, which make a positive contribution to the personal development of students.
At the event, Ehtiyat Ibragimova, a professor at Fergana State University in Uzbekistan, read out the text of a congratulatory letter sent to AzTU on its anniversary by Rector Bahodircon Shermuhammadov.
Huseyin Yılmaz, Vice-Rector of Yıldız Technical University in Turkey, also congratulated AzTU on its anniversary and wished the university continued success in its activities.
Following this, awards were presented to AzTU faculty members who were honored with the “Advanced Education Worker of the Republic of Azerbaijan” medal and a certificate of merit, in accordance with the order of Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev.
The anniversary event continued with a performance by the “Cadenza” orchestra of Karabakh University.
