ATU and the Institute of Information Technology are conducting joint research on the design of an intelligent optical network model for free space

A regular scientific seminar was held at the Institute of Information Technology under the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Academician Rasim Alguliyev, Vice-President of the ANAS and Director General of the Institute of Information Technology under the Ministry of Science and Education, addressed the seminar, providing information on the measures implemented by the Ministry to increase the significance of scientific research in higher education institutions, stimulate the work of scientists and teachers, and strengthen the position of universities in international rankings.

Academician R. Alguliyev emphasized that one of the main goals of the Ministry of Science and Education's policy on the integration of science and education in the country is to ensure a more efficient use of scientific potential in the educational process while simultaneously raising the level of application of innovative ideas and technologies formed in educational institutions within scientific research institutes.

The Director General specifically highlighted the importance of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation on the joint implementation of scientific research activities signed between the Institute of Information Technology and the Azerbaijan Technical University (ATU) in this regard. The scholar noted that the memorandum outlines important tasks for both organizations, including the implementation of joint scientific research projects in several key areas.

Academician R. Alguliyev announced that, as a continuation of these initiatives, a joint pilot project focusing on network technology problems is planned for implementation between ATU and the Institute of Information Technology. The report presented during today's seminar constituted the initial scientific discussion of those planned research studies.

Following this, Professor Mehman Hasanov, Head of the Radio Engineering and Telecommunications Department at ATU and Doctor of Technical Sciences, delivered a report titled "Creation of an intelligent optical network model in variable-parameter free-space with the application of artificial intelligence technologies."

In his speech, M. Hasanov provided information on the advantages and disadvantages of Free-Space Optics (FSO) technology for meeting the growing traffic demands of the modern information society, along with the possibilities for applying artificial intelligence technologies in this area. He highlighted that the establishment of adaptive control models based on artificial intelligence is of significant scientific and practical importance for ensuring a stable and reliable communication link under variable atmospheric conditions.

The presenter highlighted the scientific novelty of the research, pointing out that the work proposes the first fully intelligent FSO network model capable of adapting to variable atmospheric conditions, real-time optimal network configuration, and automatic determination of the communication channel using Reinforcement Learning, as well as the application of a proactive control strategy based on prediction models. He stated that these novel approaches not only increase the reliability of communication between objects in free space but also enable the creation of rapid communication infrastructure for 5G/6G technologies, urban and difficult terrain areas, and disaster zones, among others.

Discussions were held on the topic, and questions were answered.

Academician Rasim Alguliyev addressed the report, emphasizing the relevance of the topic. The scholar noted that artificial intelligence technologies play a significant role in the intellectualization of communication systems and the establishment of new-generation networks, emphasizing the importance of research conducted in this area for the national innovation ecosystem.
