Five centers of technology and innovation support will be created in Belarus in 2020.
Five Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISCs) are planned to be created in the second quarter of this year, said Alexander Shumilin, chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology at an expanded meeting of the board of the National Center for Intellectual Property (NCIS).
The creation of the TISC network is an international project initiated by the World Intellectual Property Organization to build innovative capacity through the provision of information and scientific and methodological support. “In accordance with it, a three-level network of centers is envisaged in the republic,” Alexander Shumilin explained. “The first-level TISC was created on the basis of the National Center for Intellectual Property, the second level on the basis of the Republican Scientific and Technical Library and its regional branches, third-level centers will appear on base of organizations and enterprises. "
According to the NCIS, in 2019 there was an increase in the number of applications for the grant of patents of the Republic of Belarus for industrial designs (325 applications versus 225 in 2018). 393 applications for patents for inventions were received. Two thirds of the total number were submitted by national applicants. As for foreign ones, most of the applications came from Germany, Russia and the USA. Last year, the number of applications for registration of trademarks increased (by 3% to the level of 2018 according to the national procedure and by 8% - according to the international).
According to belta.by, the number of agreements on the transfer of rights to industrial property objects has also increased: in 2019, 778 were registered (688 in 2018), including 430 license agreements on transfer of the right to use industrial property objects (121, 5% by 2018). In the field of collective management of authors' property rights, the National Center for Intellectual Property conducts activities in accordance with 6.4 thousand agreements in force in relation to 11,161 works in 40 countries of the world. Exports in the field of services for the use of intellectual property in 2019 amounted to about $ 100 million, which is twice as much as in 2017.
