The scientific seminar of the department No. 1 of the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS on the topic “Personal data Security in the Big Data environment” was held.
Aybeniz Aliyeva, a senior researcher at the Institute, presented a report on Big Data and personal data, potential opportunities and the harm of personal data, problems of protecting the confidentiality of personal data, specific goals and principles of restriction of use in the era of Big Data.
A. Aliyeva noted that personal data is data related to an identified person, and added that large amounts of social information that are part of the Internet of things, data generated by smart devices, online forums, social networks, community sites, news groups and blogs are sources of personal data in the Big data environment.
According to her, easy data leakage and disclosure of personal data in the process of collecting, storing and using large amounts of personal data during the Big Data era makes personal data security one of the most essential topics.
Problems to protect the privacy of personal information and adoption of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) regarding the protection of personal data by the European Parliament and Council On April 27, 2016 and the adoption of the law on personal data protection in many countries, including Azerbaijan are the main issues making this topic more relevant.
Speaking about the fact that individual GDPR data are classified as separate data that have open access and belong to specific categories, the speaker emphasized that data on genetics, biometrics, and health are separate data prohibiting GDPR processing.
In conclusion, the speaker noted that the limitations of traditional principles of personal data protection require the development of existing methodologies, approaches, legislative acts or new ones in the Big Data environment.
