Americans created a new generation of GPS

One of the world's largest military-industrial corporations, Raytheon has completed the development of a new generation of GPS satellite communications systems. It is expected to be launched in 2021.

This was reported by RIA "Novosti" with reference to the press release of the corporation.

“The complete development of software and hardware for Raytheon’s next-generation GPS operational control system, known as GPS OCX, has completed, and the integration and testing phase of the system is beginning,” the document says.

Raytheon is one of the five largest Pentagon contractors and is a leading developer and manufacturer of rocket weapons and radio systems. The US Air Force also acted as the customer for the new GPS communications system. Work on it began in 2016.

The new GPS OCX cybersecurity launch and verification system (Block 0) was already used in 2018–2019 to launch the first modernized GPS III satellite into space.

The focus of the team (developers) for the remainder of 2019 is the supply of new upgraded system receivers that will measure and monitor obsolete military and civilian signals sent by the current GPS satellite constellation, as well as new signals sent by the next generation GPS III, ” at Raytheon Corporation.

The company’s website explains that the current GPS system consists of two key segments: space and ground control. The space segment includes several satellites currently in orbit, the control segment consists of ground stations, which are responsible for tracking and satellites.
