The new bioreactor absorbs carbon dioxide 400 times more efficiently than trees

Scientists continue to search for solutions to the problems associated with global climate change. One of the possible directions was suggested by the specialists of the American company Hypergiant Industries.

In the course of research, they drew attention to the ability of some algae to absorb large amounts of CO2 and produce environmentally friendly biofuel from it. As a result, a compact device was created that could "digest" as much carbon dioxide from the atmosphere as an array of trees on an area of 300 m2.

In the process of photosynthesis, algae, absorbing CO2, water and sunlight, receive the energy they need for life. Scientists managed to reorient this energy to the creation of biofuels.

The reactor uses a specific strain of algae, Chlorella vulgaris, which consumes much more CO2 than other plants. Algae are in the tube system and the water tank inside the device into which air is pumped and artificial light is supplied.

The device is called Eos, in appearance it resembles a giant Xbox measuring 90 x 90 x 210 cm. The reactor is designed to work in urban conditions - its task is to capture and isolate carbon from the atmosphere, as well as to produce clean biofuel.

Information on the start of sales of new bioreactors will appear in 2020.
