Engineers have created a self-learning robot with artificial intelligence

A robot will never replace a real dog - but the latest development of scientists from the laboratory of machine perception and cognitive robotics of the Atlantic University of Florida is ready to try to do this. Baby Astro is a smart robotic dog with an unusual appearance who can learn new tricks on the go.

Everything is serious: Astro not only looks like a real dog, but also tries to learn to be like her. It is not programmed into any strict behavioral model; instead, the robot got real artificial intelligence. An advanced neural network of deep learning helps to quickly think of a mechanical pet. Thanks to her, the robot gains experience and learns from mistakes, performing typical actions for a real dog, which can be useful to humans.

The basic model understands simple commands like “sit” or “lie down”. In addition, the robot can recognize people in the face, as well as recognize other dogs. Perhaps the machine will not become a friend for a person, but it was not created for this. The main task of the "iron Doberman" is the search for weapons and explosives in the service of the police. To complete the tasks he has everything necessary: among other things, gas, radar, sound, optical and many other sensors are mounted in Astro’s head.

In addition, the robotic dog is good at moving over rough terrain: engineers say that it could be useful during search and rescue operations. Astro is able to find missing people, constantly checking the database. The NVIDIA Jetson TX2 computing modules help him in this - they allow the robot to “think through” up to 4 trillion operations per second.
