GEANT Community team visited the Institute of Physics and Republican Seismological Service Center

07 June 2019 - 15:30 | Meetings

GEANT's international project manager Veronika Di Luna, research officer Chris Atherton, procurement specialist Rita Mazeikaite visited the Institute of Physics of ANAS.  Head of International Relations Department,  Babak Nabiyev, Chief Specialist of the Institute's 4th Department Tural Mustafayev, Chief Executive Officer of the National Grid Segment of the Institute of Physics Jeyhun Guliyev and other responsible persons attended the meeting.

He noted that the Center was established in 2004, Guliev said that the work done here is supported by the Institute of Physics and Information Technology of ANAS.

The "National GRID Segment" serves to extend international scientific relations, accelerate integration into world science, to solve complex issues of science and to implement joint projects with the European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN). Processing and solving issues here requires a high-speed Internet connection.

The II GRID Segment was established at the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS and both complexes are used for physical and mathematical modeling of GRID infrastructure and there are 960 computational channels in existence, Guliyev noted.

Then, the guests have closely acquainted with the activities of the Republican Seismic Survey Center (RSSC).

The guests were informed about the complex seismological, geophysical, geodynamic and geochemical researches conducted by RSSC. The Republican Seismic Survey Center's network infrastructure was connected to the National Eduroam Server at the Data Center of AzScienceNet.

The guests were informed about the complex seismological, geophysical, geodynamic and geochemical researches conducted by the Center.

Sabina Kazimova noted that the Center's Earthquake Research Bureau, one of the major organizations involved in the study and study of earthquakes, is working local, near and far-off earthquakes, as well as volcanoes, landslides and explosions. This requires real-time high-bandwidth resources and high-speed Internet access.
