New CES 2019: Empathizing Robot

The company Yukai Engineering demonstrated at CES 2019 the robot BOCCO emo, which is able to recognize the emotions of the user and empathize with him.

The device looks like a little snowman. According to the developers, this robot is designed to communicate with the household, whether it be children or the elderly. BOCCO emo connects to the Internet via Wi-Fi or via a mobile connection thanks to a SIM card. So, users can send a message (audio or text), and the robot can read it out loud.

But the main feature of the robot is that it is able to recognize the speech of the owners and the intonation of the voice. If he hears something negative, he will lower his head, publish some sort of whine, and his “cheeks” will turn red. If the robot recognizes the cheerful mood of the user, then he will raise his head, chirp like a bird, and his cheeks will turn green. Moreover, if you send an emoji in the form of a heart in a message, then the same symbol will light up around the BOCCO emo eyes.

The robots were equipped with a number of sensors to control devices for the smart home. The vibration sensor makes it clear that someone has entered the room. The lock sensor can detect if the door is open. The motion sensor responds to the presence in the room. A humidity and temperature sensor will allow households to avoid heat stroke. The user can receive all the information by synchronizing the robot with the application.
