Timekettle WT2 Plus headphone translator lets you destroy the language barrier

Although we live in the modern world, the problem of the language barrier when visiting other countries has not disappeared. If you do not want to learn the language of the country you want to visit, or simply do not have foreign languages, but you love to travel and would like to have no trouble communicating with foreigners, be sure to pay attention to Timekettle's new WT2 Plus. which is currently shown at the CES-2019 International Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

In appearance, it is the usual wireless headphones. But, in fact, the WT2 Plus, which costs $ 219, is an indispensable device for any traveler: a wireless headphone translator. The headset connects to a smartphone based on Android or iOS with Bluetooth and is paired with a mobile application through which the user can select a language and follow the phrases already spoken. At the moment, it offers support for 20 languages, including Russian, which in the near future promise to add at least another 15. In addition, the application recognizes different accents. For example, there is support for up to 5 accents of English, including Australian English.

While the headphones (each 110 mAh battery) are located in the pocket case, their battery (320 mAh capacity) recharges them. A full charge (lasting 90 minutes) lasts up to 5 hours of conversation. Waiting time – up to 30 hours. The battery box is enough to recharge each headset. As soon as the case is opened in two parts, the connection of both headphones to the user's smartphone is activated automatically (only one device is needed), and you can start talking to a foreigner.

Both users can talk and listen to each other, for this, each of them puts on a headset from the kit. While one of them speaks, the headset transmits the words to the smartphone, where the application is translated and then transmits it to the other person's handset. The same process goes in the opposite direction. The time between spoken words, translation and output to the alien's ear is up to 3-5 seconds. An example of the headphone translator can be seen in the video below WT2 Plus.

The gadget supports three modes of operation. In addition to the "Auto" mode, in which the device does everything by itself, there is a "Touch" mode, which requires the user to touch the headphones before beginning the sentence. This method can be more practical when communicating in a rather noisy environment: the device will not detect or translate strange voices. For those who disdain to pass the handset to strangers, there is a third mode "Speaker." In this case, the owner of the headset uses the headset, while the interlocutor can read the translation of the phrase uttered by the application on the screen of the smartphone, listen to it and respond through the speaker of the smartphone.

Timekettle promises accuracy of up to 95 percent in translation. For translation using Google and Microsoft cloud servers. Therefore, the application requires constant access to the Internet, however, the company is committed to launch an offline version of the translator this year. Experts who have tested the headphone translator at CES show that the device does an excellent job, at least with the translation of / into English and Chinese.

At the same time, the manufacturer is a bit sneaky and calls the translators of his device in real time. In fact, the gadget is capable of translating short sentences of up to 15 seconds at a time. In other words, it will not work, for example, when watching movies in a foreign language. This restriction makes it look like a Pixel Bud translator headset. It is true that the latter works exclusively with Pixel smartphones from the same Google.

The novelty is not ideal, but in any case it will be much more convenient and pleasant to use than trying to find out by a foreigner how to find the nearest toilet, place of interest or restaurant while gesturing frantically.
