Project “Hour of Code” presented in Shamakhy

The project “Hour of Code” was presented for schoolchildren in Shamakhy for the first time. The project was implemented with the support of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, through the joint organization of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies and Microsoft Azerbaijan and on the initiative of  Shamakhy Region Executive Authority.

The main objective of the project is to inform schoolchildren on how interesting, easy and accessible programming can be.

Within the framework of the event, a meeting was held with schoolchildren and teachers of mathematics and computer science who were involved in the project for the first time. They were informed in detail about the importance of holding such events, which provide an opportunity to look at the work in the rapidly developing technology industry and get acquainted with the most exciting technological innovations. Also, innovative training and coding lessons were conducted.

Speaking at the event, Rashad Azizov, head of the Department of Innovation Development of the Information Society and Electronic Governance of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies said that the most advanced technologies in the field of ICT are used in Azerbaijan.

He also stressed that the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies is taking serious steps for the innovative development of our country. Technoparks, business incubation centers are being created, and the startup movement is expanding from year to year.

Microsoft Azerbaijan’s CEO Sarkhan Hashimov, in turn, noted that currently most of children plan to start a career in the field of information technologies. Today, Azerbaijan’s information technologies industry, which is developing at a tremendous pace, faces a lack of personnel. The initiative “Hour of Code” is aimed particularly at raising the interest of young people in information technologies.

It should be noted that the “Hour of Code” is an effective way to attract schoolchildren’s attention to one of the most promising areas of the economy - information technologies and is organized by the public non-profit organization Code.org. The “Hour of Code” initiative is a global movement that covers hundreds of millions of students and schoolchildren in over 180 countries around the world.
