Exhibition and conference on “Development of Intellectual Property in Azerbaijan: Presentation of Innovative and High-Tech Startups” were held in Geneva, Switzerland. The event was co-organized by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Intellectual Property Agency, World Intellectual Property Organization, and the International Telecommunication Union.
The exhibition and conference, organized at the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organization, was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.
The event was attended by Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ramin Guluzade, Chairman of the Intellectual Property Agency Kamran Imanov, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization Francis Gurry and Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union Houlin Zhao, permanent representative of Azerbaijan to the UN Office at Geneva and other international organizations Vagif Sadigov, other officials, representatives of diplomatic missions and startuppers.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies Ramin Guluzade spoke about the innovative development in our country.
The Minister said that innovative development in Azerbaijan is one of the priorities of the country, and this issue is supported by the government. He noted that within the framework of institutional and economic reforms, serious steps are being taken in the country for the establishment of innovation ecosystems and development of startups.
Ramin Guluzade also emphasized that the private sector also supports state initiatives by creating various innovation centers, laboratories. Azerbaijani startups successfully participate in international competitions.
Speaking about the achievements in the field of intellectual property in Azerbaijan, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization Francis Gurry said that the development of the legal framework in this area plays an important role in the socio-economic life of the country.
“This event is dedicated to the protection of intellectual property and the development of innovations. This year I visited Azerbaijan, where I witnessed the innovative environment and activity of young people in the field of innovations. All this is supported by the country’s leadership. This event demonstrates how the innovation environment works.”
Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union Houlin Zhao underlined the high level of cooperation between Azerbaijan and his organization and said that our country was recently elected to the organization’s governing bodies. He said that Azerbaijan is becoming an innovative HUB on international transport corridors as a country that pays special attention to the field of modern technologies.
Chairman of the Intellectual Property Agency Kamran Imanov said that Azerbaijan is on the path of innovative development, and all this is reflected in international reports. Azerbaijan ranked 25th among 190 countries in The World Bank’s latest “The Doing Business” report. Azerbaijan has improved its ranking in 8 out of 10 positions. Our country has a key role in the number of reforms in the world.”
Then participants got acquainted with the projects prepared by the Azerbaijani startuppers. 16 most progressive local startup projects were selected by the working group set up for the event. The projects covered health, tourism, agriculture and industry.
The following projects were presented: “Method of presowing ozonization of seeds of agricultural plants”, “Method and installation of sanitation of aircraft cabins and other vehicles” (Akber Aliyev ), “Reducer and rotating mechanism of armored vehicles” (Ali Najafov), Hypolife, Co2 Catalyser (Yusif Abdullayev), “Ship’s engine without blade” (Emin Hajiyev), “Onbranch” (Elchin Askerov), “Smart drawer”, “Platform for a healthy lifestyle” (Shahlar Pashayev), “Smartkeyboard” (Jamal Agayev), “Kuleko” (Murad Rahimov), “Wand”, “Zoom X” (Elchin Aghazade), “Heart guard” (Heydar Aliyev), “ARZoom” (Farid Davudov).
During the acquaintance with the exhibition, the startuppers made presentations before the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization and the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union. The projects of Azerbaijani startuppers were met with great interest.
As part of the event, a conference was also held. Speakers from Azerbaijan, World Intellectual Property Organization and International Telecommunication Union provided information on advanced experience in innovation development and progressive approaches.
In conclusion, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies hosted an official reception, as well as a concert featuring national music (ethno-jazz).
