Chinese scientists have created long-term rewritable paper

Researchers from China have developed a special rewritable paper that can be reused up to a hundred times.

Plain paper is used only once, after which it is discarded, polluting the environment. Now a group of scientists led by the Fujian Pedagogical University announces the development of a rewritable paper that can be used again and again. Records on such paper can be saved for more than 6 months (for comparison: other rewritable documents “erase” records in a few days or a few months).

Innovative material consists of a three-layer structure. In the center is the usual layer of paper, which is coated on the one hand with a thermochromic blue dye (becomes colorless when heated), and on the other - with a black photothermal toner that generates heat when excited by light. Images on such paper are created using a special thermal book, thermal printer, or infrared light source. The developers drew on such paper and made notes that remained clear for more than six months. To clean the paper, you just need to cool it down to -10 degrees Celsius.
