Companies Himax Technologies, MediaTek and Megvii presented a reference solution designed to implement the functions of identifying users by face in mobile devices on the Android operating system.
The development was called Active Stereo Camera (ASC) 3D. It combines the means of determining the depth, computer vision algorithms based on artificial intelligence, as well as a number of hardware components.
The system provides effective 3D recognition of users by face. The function can be used both to unlock the mobile device and to confirm payments.
The special infrared projector of the ASC 3D system and two highly sensitive receivers allow you to build a 3D face map from 7,000–10,000 invisible points. This data is used to identify the user. It is argued that the components of the system are small and have low power consumption.
The developers expect that ASC 3D will allow to introduce the functions of three-dimensional recognition of users by face into Android smartphones for the mass market. The first such devices will see the light next year.
