The company Western Digital introduced the most capacious hard disk drive in the world - the Ultrastar DC HC620 hard drive with a capacity of 15 TB. This is a terabyte more than last year’s Western Digital and Seagate 14 TB models, introduced in September.
The drive is made in the standard 3.5-inch form factor and is designed for businesses dealing with "big data". If such hard drives are used in the popular 4U rack on 60 HDD, then the total capacity will reach 900 TB.
The drive uses Shingled Magnetic Recording (SMR) and HelioSeal technology. The latter involves the use of helium in the form of a filler, which guarantees the tightness of the structure, and the SMR functionality provides partial overlapping of adjacent tracks when recording information and increases storage density and total capacity for each drive.
There are versions of the version with SAS interface 12 Gb / s and SATA 6 Gb / s. The price of the company is modestly silent.
