The next scientific seminar of the Department № 4 of the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS was held. Deputy Director on Technologies, Associate Professor Rashid Alakbarov opened the event, said that the seminar was dedicated to the topic of “Hard Disk Data Storage Encryption Technologies”.
Researcher Kamran Jafarzade presented the report, briefed about” BitLocker” technology, which fully encrypts hard drives. He said that this technology, part of Microsoft's operating system, will protect important information on lost, stolen, and unmanaged computers.
He highlighted the encryption algorithms and encryption methods supported by “BitLocker”.
K.Jafarzadeh informed about the special microscheme - TPM (Trusted Platform Module) used on many computers to support additional security features and stated that up to now, more than 500 million computers have been equipped with the TPM chip.
Speaking about the key advantages of “BitLocker”, the reporter said that this technology is based on the high degree of reliability, the AES algorithm, the lack of additional payment for the program, the high productivity, the ability to use the TPM chip, and so on.
He also pointed out the capabilities of “TrueCrypt”, “VeraCrypt”, “CipherShed”, “Symantec Endpoint Encryption”.
According to K.Jafarzade, In “Windows 10” system “BitLocker” supports Windows XTS-AES encryption algorithm, which manipulates the encrypted text and provides additional protection against encryption attacks. He noted that “BitLocker To Go” would be used to encrypt external drives (for example, external hard drives and USB flash memory), as opposed to the “BitLocker” used to encrypt the internal disks.
Discussions were held around the report, questions were answered.
