The Institute of Information Technology of ANAS held a joint scientific seminar dedicated to the theme "The prospects of application of Internet of Things in the oil and gas complex" by departments №3 and №11.

Deputy Director of the Institute, Head of Department No. 11 Shakir Mehdiyev  presented the report with co-author Tahmasib Fataliyev , Head of  Department No.3 . He said that the industrial production of oil in Azerbaijan, known as the ancient oil land in the world, has begun in the mid-nineteenth century. In 1848, oil extracted from the Bibiheybat field in Baku laid the foundation for the "black gold" industrial production in Azerbaijan. In 1899, Azerbaijan took the first place in oil production and processing, and half of the world's oil production.

The Deputy Director of the Institute noted that the research on the report was conducted within the grant project "Research of the application problems of Internet of things technologies in the oil and gas industry" financed by the State Oil Fund of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR).

The application of Internet of Things technology for accurate, easy, safe, reliable and fast collection of data in the management of oil and gas industry facilities was studied as a topical problem, its problems were investigated and the conceptual model of the application was developed.

Development of Internet of Things, including microelectronics and wireless sensor networks (WSN - Wireless Sensor Network) are connected with the latest achievements in software engineering, Sh. Mehdiyev noted.  He informed about  Anomaly Detection Systems -WSN Based or SCADA Systems for Monitoring and Management in Oil and Gas Industry. Each of these systems has certain limitations: “These systems are very expensive, non-flexible, and it is hard to scale. Because of these factors, numerous problems in data collection, transmission and processing are inevitable. "

Recently, the emergence of intelligent devices, the rise of telecommunication capabilities, clouding, and the emergence of Big Data technologies has led to rapid development of the Internet of Things, he  noted.
