Delivery of parcels to the house becomes every year more and more popular in the US, respectively, and the number of their thefts is also growing. Kickstarter launched a campaign to raise funds for a padlock with an integrated barcode scanner that will help protect parcels from thieves.
The idea of this "security system" is quite simple: a wooden chest is bolted to the threshold or wall of the house, which closes on a padlock, hightech.fm reports. When the courier brings a parcel, he brings the barcode to the built-in scanner. The device reads the information from the barcode and goes to the Internet to make sure: 1) the package is addressed to you; 2) delivery is scheduled for this day. If both criteria match, the lock is automatically unlocked. Notification of this comes in your mobile application. The courier leaves parcels in the chest, closes it and locks the lock. You can open it on your smartphone.
At present, the system is compatible with the applications of delivery services Amazon, FedEx, UPS and USPS. The lock is waterproof and works 30 days without recharging. At Kickstarter, you can buy it for $ 94, and the estimated market price is $ 129. If the campaign will raise enough funds, the newsletter will start in the summer of 2018.
