1st European Junior Olympiad on Informatics (First European Junior Olympiad in Informatics, eJOI) was held in Sofia (Bulgaria) on September 7-13. The purpose of the event is to promote the interest of young people in information technologies, to encourage the development of competitive software in Europe, and to identify the most talented youth representatives in the field of information technology.
The competitions were held by the organizational support of the Ministry of Science and Education, the Municipality of Sofia, Sofia University of St. Clement of Ohrid Sofia Technological Park.
At the Olympiad 89 students from 22 countries took part, including Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Armenia, Georgia, Croatia, Estonia, France, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Macedonia , Moldova, Ukraine and Greece. The Olympiad our country was represented by Abutalib Namazov (Lyceum with a bias of mathematics, physics and computer science), Husein Hajiyev (Baku European Lyceum), Murad Einizadeh (secondary school No. 4 of Lankaran city) and Aziz Huseynov (Ganja secondary school No. 26).
On September 8, at the opening ceremony of the event were reported the President of Bulgaria Rumen Radev, Commissioner of the European Commission (EC) for Digital Economy and Society Maria Gabriel and Minister of Education of Bulgaria Krasimir Vulchev. At the ceremony, it was announced treatment of the EU Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Tibor Navracsics to the organizers and participants of the Olympiad.
Within the framework of the Olympiad, participants demonstrated their knowledge in the field of information technology. As a result of the competition, 8 participants won gold, 15 participants - silver and 22 participants - a bronze medal. A pupil of grade 9 Lyceum with a bias in physics, mathematics, computer science A.Namazov, having adequately presented our country at the Olympiad, was awarded a bronze medal.
At the closing ceremony, the winners were donated awards.
