Without a doubt, dogs brighten up the loneliness of many elderly people. However, pets need care, which is far from everyone can. The way out of this situation can be a robot dog.
The MiRo bionic robot was developed by the specialists of the University of Sheffield especially for the elderly. Equipped with various sensors, he feels touch and wags his tail when he feels good. The built-in stereoscopic cameras recognize people and track their movements. In the nose MiRo is a sonar, with which the robot determines its location.
According to the designers, in the near future next to us there will appear social robots actively interacting with us and responding to the manifestation of our feelings. Robot MiRo has artificial intelligence, which gives him the ability to recognize visitors at the front door and remind owners of everyday problems.
It is also proposed to use robots in schools and universities, as well as as "mass demonstrators" in public places, for example, in museums. The cost of MiRo is 2800 dollars.
