The Netherlands plans to pave its roads with recycled plastic

By the end of 2017, the first plastic road may appear in the Netherlands.

There are many benefits to using recycled plastic rather than asphalt for a driving surface: producing the material would have a much smaller environmental footprint; it would last longer; require less maintenance; and be able to withstand greater extremes in temperature.

According to lenta.ru  site, the plastic solution would be quicker to lay too,  and the road would be hollow, leaving room for power and utility cables.

''Now we have sufficient knowledge, experience and resources to begin to take concrete steps for the  implementation of this project together with Wavin and Total companies. We expect that the project will be ready by the end of 2017 ", - told the inventors.

Note that, road concept consisting of recycled plastic was appeared in 2015. Then the Dutch company proposed to replace the asphalt road with the plastic road in the United States.
