New Chinese supercomputer can perform a trillion operations per second

This summer, the Chinese experts have created the world’s most powerful supercomputer Sunway TaihuLight, whose performance is 93 petaflops. The machine is able to perform 93 per quadrillion calculations per second thanks to 10.65 million cores. But China is not going to stop there, because computing power are not redundant, so the Chinese State center for high performance computing together with the National University of defense science and technology started to develop a prototype of a supercomputer of a new generation. The press service of the center reports that the future computer will be able to perform a trillion operations per second.

A supercomputing machine plays an important role in promoting scientific and technological innovations and development in various industries. Before the U.S., Japan and the EU began to develop a new generation supercomputer, their goal is to by 2020 to build a computer that will be able to perform a trillion operations per second, — quotes the representative of the National University of defense science and technology news Agency Xinhua.

The first supercomputer appeared in China six years ago, it’s called Tianhe-1 and performs a quadrillion calculations per second. It works now, performing various tasks associated with Biopharmaceuticals, equipment manufacturing, oil exploration and many others. Every day it carries more than 1400 tasks, so he is constantly used by over thousands of customers.
