Institute of Information Technology of ANAS participates in the project (EaPConnect: Eastern Partnership Connect) funded by the European Commission and covering the Eastern Partnership countries to develop and use computer network for research and education. Within the framework of the project AzScienceNet –national science and education network of Azerbaijan will be integrated into science and education network (GEANT network), which covers whole Europe.
On March 13-18, 2016 the project's final meeting was held in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Academician secretary of ANAS, director of the Institute of Information Technology, acad. Rasim Alguliyev took part in the general assembly of the project.
DG NEAR: Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations representative Ivan Navas Fernandez also attended the meeting. European Commission would continue its support to the project Mr. Fernandez mentioned.
A joint study conducted by the Azerbaijani and European scientists were discussed. The contest Enlighten Your Research was proposed to be organized in European countries to provide technical assistance to such researches within the project.
Research and education institutions will have high-speed access to the GEANT network over AzScienceNet (1 gigabit/sec) acad. Rasim Alguliyev added. Subsequently, a new range of services over the network will be developed. The services will ensure the users with unified identification system within the network, safe and reliable transmission of large amounts of data, access to a number of European scientific databases, high-quality video conferencing systems, application of remote medical services, expansion of distance education opportunities, grid and cloud (Cloud Computing) systems.
