Institute of Information Technology of ANAS extends collaboration with Europe

A delegation of the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS represented Azerbaijan at the international conference held in Luxembourg. Academician-secretary of ANAS, director of the institute, academician Rasim Alguliyev, heads of departments of the institute Dr.Ramiz Aliguliyev and Ph.D. Vugar Musayev  attended the GEANT Association General Assembly, EaPConnect meetings and seminars of e-IRG: Electronic Research Infrastructures Reflection Group. All the events were held at the new campus of the University of Luxembourg, with the invitation of the Luxembourg National Research and Education Network. A wide interview of the delegation on the status of e-science in Azerbaijan is available in the journal “Primeur”, which mainly highlights the supercomputing innovations.

EaPConnect project

At the  meetings of EaPConnect, the inclusion of the  Eastern Partnership countries, as well as Azerbaijan to GEANT network, and other related issues were discussed, and  the work on the  completion of establishment of EaPConnect  network was scheduled by early 2016. Taking into account an active participation of AzScienceNet employees in the management of the new network, they will join activities under GEANT. Achievements, experience, and plans in the field of research and education networks of Poland, the Netherlands, and Lithuania were presented.

GEANT General Assembly

The General Assembly of the GÉANT Association today elected a new Board of Directors and the president of GEANT and composition of director board at sessions of the GEANT General Assembly, and a new technical program was adopted. The Ukrainian National Research and Education Network (URAN) became the member of GEANT. Christian Grimm will replace former President Pierre Bruyere. Dorte Olesen, Sabine Jaume-Rajaonia, Ivan Maric, Alberto Perez, Marco Bonac, Raimundas Tuminauskas, Erik Huizer and Valter Nordh were elected Continuing members of the board of directors.

e-IRG: European e-Science infrastructure Group

The working seminar organized by E-Science infrastructure in Europe Group (e-IRG) discussed the joint use of the European e-infrastructures for science and education. The seminar offered new approaches to the joint use of new software, network resources, databases and data centers throughout Europe. In addition, it discussed the schedule for 2016 on e-infrastructure within "Horizon2020", support to research works, and other urgent issues as the policy of use of open science clouds and e-resources.
