On 5 April 2015, the first stage of the 10^th Olympiad in Informatics among university students organized by the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of AR (MHIT), Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Institute of Information Technology of ANAS and the Ministry of Education of AR and supported by the Qafqaz University, was held. The event is dedicated to the May 17 - World Telecommunication and Information Society Day.

The event hosted by Qafqaz University was opened by the Deputy Minister of Communications and High Technologies. He talked about the attention of the government paid to the development of information and communication technologies (ICT) in the country.

Jury Chairman, Baku State University professor Ramin Mahmudzadeh gave information about the terms of the competition, which had been held since 2007 regularly.

The head of Training Innovation Center of the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS Rasmiyya Mahmudova made speech and stressed importance of the competition identify talented young people with innovative thinking on ICT and their involvement in national and international projects and competitions.

Later, rector of Qafqaz University, Professor Ahmet Sanich, MCHT Information Society Development Department head Isfandiyar Aliyev, head of the Trade Union of Nakhchivan State University Elshan Mammadov spoke about the importance of the Olympiad.

50 teams, including 3 students each, from 14 universities from Baku, Ganja, Nakhchivan and Sumgayit took part on the first stage.

Note that the final stage of the Olympiad will be held on April 26 at the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS. The winners will be awarded by "HP" company.
