Japanese company Vstone introduced Hiro-chan, a soft training baby robot that responds to hugs: usually crying, the robot calms down when picked up.

One of the features of a social robot is user-friendly communication, as close as possible to natural - that which occurs between people. An important component of this communication, in turn, is emotions: the robot must not only recognize the emotional state of a person, but also respond accordingly - also with the help of any emotions.

According to nanonewsnet.ru, the ability of robots to express emotions is important not only for simple communication, but also for training: such robots, for example, help children with autism in emotional learning. The problem is that it is not so easy for robots to express emotions on their faces: if the emotion is underdeveloped, the user does not recognize it, and if you overdo it, you can achieve the effect of an ominous valley.

Vstone developers decided to get around this problem in a very radical way: their robotic baby Hiro-chan has no face at all. Instead, he expresses emotions solely with sounds. The device makes more than a hundred different sounds, the material for which was the sounds of real children. All the robot can do is cry when it is left alone, and calm down when it is raised: if you hug Hiro-chan, he starts to laugh.
