Adobe Releases About Face Dipstick Recognition Tool November 12, 2019 | 03:56 / Interesting information

Adobe has developed a tool called “About Face,” designed to identify when retouching photos. His work is based on Sensei's proprietary artificial intelligence, which provides (currently) 99% accuracy for recognizing dipfakes. But this development may not find a really wide application due to one fundamental limitation.

The principle of operation About Face is based on pixel-by-pixel verification of the image, according to the results of which its heat map is compiled. Plots with the highest number of retouching are contrasted on it, which allows us to identify not only edited places, but also to evaluate how much they have changed. Efficiency is confirmed by the analysis of thousands of photos.

Alas, the bottleneck About Face is the link to the software products of Adobe itself. More precisely, the AI can only work with files from Photoshop and reveals only those corrections that were made by the Face-Aware Liquify tool (a filter that allows you to easily correct facial plastic surgery - Ed. Perhaps it was the awareness of the limitations of the new tool that prompted Adobe to add the undo retouch feature to it.

On the other hand, About Face is only an experimental technology, it is not a full-fledged AI for detecting dipfakes, but its starting version. Adobe itself intends to develop it to ensure full compatibility with other photo editors.
