The analytical company Strategy Analytics has released a study on the development of the segment of smartphones with support for fifth-generation networks (5G).

Such devices will account for about 60% of the smartphone market in 2022 in monetary terms, and in 2025 the figure will rise to 75%, experts predict.

According to them, the average selling price of 5G smartphones will be higher, which is what the market as a whole. The fastest 5G handsets will become cheaper in China, as this country has traditionally been strongly focused on lowering prices. Thanks to China, the average cost of 5G phones will decrease, according to Strategy Analytics.

Strategy Analytics previously predicted that global shipments of 5G mobile smartphones will reach 5 million units in 2019.

According to IDC's forecast, in 2020, 123 million 5G phones or 9% of the total number in the world will be released.

The research company Gartner believes that in 2020 such devices will account for 10% of smartphone sales globally, and by 2023 the figure will increase to 56%.

Deliveries of smartphones supporting fifth-generation networks in 2020 reached 260 million units, analysts at the Taiwan Institute for Market Research and Consulting (Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute, MIC) predict. In 2019, shipments of 5G devices are expected to reach 11.4 million units.

Canalys analysts expect 800 million 5G smartphones to be released worldwide in 2023, or 51.4% of the total market. Thus, the supply of these tubes will be ahead of the 4G-model.

So far, Samsung has taken the lead in the 5G segment among smartphone manufacturers. This was facilitated by the high demand for its devices in South Korea, as well as the expansion of its presence in the United States.

Along with Samsung, LG, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi introduced their first 5G models, and soon other vendors, including Apple, will join them. In this regard, from 2020, rapid growth in sales of 5G-smartphones is expected, primarily in China, the USA and in developed markets in Asia and Western Europe. By 2025, sales of 5G smartphones should exceed 1 billion, according to Strategy Analytics.

According to Canalys forecasts, from 2019 to 2023, global shipments of 5G-enabled phones reached 1.9 billion units with an average annual growth rate of 179.9%. The largest market for such devices by the end of this period will be China, which will account for 34% of the segment. At the same time, the share of supporting 5G smartphones in the Chinese market will grow from 17.5% in 2020 to 62.7% in 2023.
