Scientists have created a smart T-shirt that will help control lung diseases October 07, 2019 | 04:30 / Technological innovations

An international team of scientists from the medical center of the University of Radbud (Netherlands) has developed a smart T-shirt that can accurately track breathing and can be used to monitor lung diseases.

The device sends data to a mobile application and allows you to control breathing also in healthy people while they are busy with their daily activities. The study is published in the journal Medical Xpress.

The development was called Hexoskin: the point is that the shirt, using the built-in sensors, “feels” how the tissue stretches when the human chest expands and contracts, and uses these indicators to measure the volume of inhaled and exhaled air. In addition, the device records the heart rate.

“Smart shirts (or shirts) already exist, but they are usually used by professional athletes. We wanted to see if this technology was able to provide an accurate and more practical alternative for measuring lung function, ”says Denise Mannée, a physician at the University of Radbud.
