"Google Photos" is now able to search by text in images August 26, 2019 | 12:17 / Technological innovations

The photo service "Google Photos" has a built-in optical character recognition (OCR), which allows you to search by text on any image. According to the company’s twitter, this feature will be open to all users within a month.

"Google Photos" can find any printed text, regardless of its size or angle (but works best with screenshots). The found fragment can be copied with one button. The OCR function will be available both in Android and iOS applications, as well as in the web client.

Thanks to computer vision technology, Google Photos is already able to recognize images that capture the faces of people and faces of pets, and put these pictures in hotel folders. The service “sees” other objects, and determines locations by GPS coordinates. The user can find any photo he is interested in by simply entering a search query - for example, pizza will display all the pictures with this dish, and Saint Petersburg will show photos taken in this city.
