As part of the Self Healing Soft Robotics (SHERO) project, scientists have created a robotic arm worth 3 million euros. A hand can feel pain, detect damage, and then repair itself on its own.

The idea of a new development came up with a team from the University of Cambridge. Scientists have created a hand that, thanks to its ability to detect damage and repair itself, can save thousands of dollars. This feature will reduce or even eliminate downtime in industrial production.

Dr. Thomas George Turutel, a research fellow at the project, has high expectations. Turutel believes that this device can be useful in modular and evolutionary robotics.

“We will continue to model and integrate self-healing materials, including actuators and sensors. They will be able to find, localize and control the healing of all injuries, ”he added.

This development involved a team of researchers from Brussels University and a research consortium, which includes Cambridge University, the Higher School of Physics and Chemistry of Industry, the Swiss Federal Laboratory for Materials Science and the Dutch polymer manufacturer SupraPolix.
