The next scientific seminar of the Department №4 of the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS was held. The event was opened by the Deputy Director of the Institute for Technologies, Ph.D. in Technology, Associate Professor Rashid Alakbarov. He brought to the attention that the seminar was devoted to discussing the possibilities of eSIM technologies.

The report was presented by Kamran Jafarzade, a researcher of the Institute. He gave information about the date of creation of a universal chip or eSIM chip (ing. Embedded SIM, built-in SIM-card) of 5x5 millimeters, which is installed directly on the device board during production. He noted that in 2014, the GSMA Association proposed eSIM technology in order to thoroughly solve the problem of virtualization of SIM-cards.

The speaker gave information on devices supporting eSIM, as well as on eSIM operations, on the configuration process.

K. Jafarzade told the main advantages of eSIM and said that the support of the eSIM by the mobile operator, the QR-code and the application or the SM-DP + server address, manually entered, and the presence of a supported device are necessary for using eSIM.

Speaking about the security of inter-profile transitions in eSIM, the speaker gave information on the role of eSIM technology in the “Internet of Things” and reported on the usage dynamics of devices supporting it and mobile operators, as well as devices supporting eSIM.
