Google launches the world's first commercial delivery service using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the Australian capital Canberra, according to the British publication The Guardian.

It is already known that drones will deliver food, drinks, medicines and other goods directly to the consumer’s home. At the initial stage, the Project Wing service will be available only for 100 houses, but in the coming months it is planned to expand the delivery area. The agreement on the distribution of products to its customers using UAVs has already been signed by 12 local enterprises.

Approval for the use of UAVs in Canberra issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia (CASA). This was preceded by 18 months of testing, during which not a single accident occurred.

A CASA representative said that the UAV service does not pose a danger to people, aircraft, residential buildings and real estate on the ground. However, the delivery service will work at a certain time of day. Drones are also forbidden to cross main roads and fly close to people. It is noted that during the tests, some residents complained about the noise created by the drones, so a quieter drone type was developed for Project Wing.
