New viruses replace the results of a study of mortally ill people April 08, 2019 | 12:30 / Interesting information
Researchers from the Israeli Cybersecurity Research Center of Ben-Gurion University have discovered vulnerabilities in high-tech medical equipment.

The researchers managed to create a working exploit and conduct an attack. The created malware allows you to make changes to the results of computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. Moreover, changes are made automatically and before receiving the pictures by doctors.

With the help of this malware, you can add or remove a malignant tumor in the patient's image. The final picture is so realistic that the doctors participating in the tests did not doubt its authenticity and did not suspect a fake.

In 99% of cases, qualified radiologists took artificially scored tumors for a real image. In the case of "removal" of the tumor, radiology reported healthy lungs of the patient in 94% of cases. When the doctors were warned that some of the images were fake, the doctors still diagnosed cancer in a healthy person in 60% of cases and in 87% did not identify the real cancer patient.
