Bill Gates supported a project to grow synthetic meat with CRISPR March 14, 2019 | 04:13 / Interesting information

Meat from the "tube", which was able to grow from animal cells in the laboratory, is no longer news. The CRISPR genome editing technology, which allows for changes in DNA, is not new. Now scientists have tried to combine these two technologies to achieve completely new results.

According to Business Insider, at least two startups are currently experimenting with meat cultivation using CRISPR. Journalists of the publication found two patents of the food company Memphis Meats (USA) for the production of "laboratory" meat, with the support of well-known billionaire entrepreneurs Bill Gates and Richard Branson.

Scientists openly declare the high quality of the future "laboratory" meat with an edited genome. In particular, it does not require nutrient-rich "germinal cow serum", which is prepared from the blood of slaughtered cows specifically for growing "test-tube meat". Such a measure, according to scientists, will help change the attitude to meat food, even animal rights advocates.
