A new method for 3D printing of transparent glass figures has been developed January 03, 2019 | 09:55 / Technological innovations

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) engineers have designed a new improved version of the 3D printer for printing transparent glass products

The new G3DP2 platform is designed for digital production of transparent glass on an industrial scale. It turns molten glass into columns up to 3 meters high. The basis of the mechanism of the platform is a crucible furnace, which allows you to melt glass and keep its temperature at 2,000 degrees Celsius. Molten glass flows through special channels for printing, reaches the ceramic plate, where it cools and becomes hard.

In their work, scientists report on how you can control the behavior of the printed glass, and also describe the technical characteristics and algorithm for controlling the platform. The G3DP2 platform accelerates the production of glass parts and its volumes, as well as increases the accuracy of reproduction of identical and durable objects.
