Popular retailer automates its stores December 20, 2018 | 04:57 / Interesting information

December 17, the popular chain of stores Seven-Eleven Japan Co. Launched a 7-Eleven self-service trial store using face recognition technology. The reason for this is the desire to reduce the number of jobs and popularize non-cash payments in the face of a shortage of labor.

The store is located in a building in Minato in Tokyo, in which the NEC Group is located, using technology developed by NEC Corp., the main Japanese supplier of IT services and products.

Today, about 6 thousand employees of the NEC Group can use the store after registering their photos in the system. On self-service counters, customers scan barcodes on products and place their faces next to cameras, which allows you to automatically deduct payment amounts from their salaries.

The company plans to install the system in small outlets 7-Eleven, for example, in office buildings, making it the first network of minimarkets of this type in Japan.
