Brain implant can prevent epileptic seizures August 31, 2018 | 02:41 / Technological innovations

The electronic chip implanted in the brain can help prevent epileptic seizures.

Researchers from Cambridge University (Great Britain) and the Mountain School of Paris (France) implanted a device in the brain of mice that reacts to the first signs of an attack. The sensors pick up the beginning of the "electric storm" in the brains of mice and release a special natural chemical to stop it. To stop the attack, less than 1% of the chemical placed in the device is required, so the implant can work for a long time without the need for refueling.

The implant is made of plastic twice as thick as a human hair. The creators argue that the development can be tested on humans in the next two years.
