The winners of the Republican Olympiad in Informatics among university students were awarded. Note that the Olympiad was jointly organized by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies, Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Education and the Institute of Information Technology of National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (ANAS). 
Video message by Houlin Zao, Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union on the occasion of May 17 - World Telecommunication and Information Society Day was shown at the event.

Welcoming  the event participants, Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies Ramin Guluzade recalled that today is World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, saying various events have been held in the world on this day since 2006. Noting that this year’s theme of the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is “Artificial Intelligence”, the Minister noted that there is a growing number of young people contributing to the development of the country’s intellectual potential. He said that the Olympiad, which has been held for more than 10 years plays an important role in the development of programming habits among young people.

“Today, much is being done to increase the role of young people in the innovative development of our country. Startup movement is expanding, innovative ideas are supported through grants, loans and investment. It is planned to create an Innovation Center to intensify measures in this area, said the Minister.

The award ceremony was attended by representatives of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Education, Baku Engineering University, Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Institute of Information Technologies of National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (ANAS),  Baku State University, companies BestComp Group and Nar Mobile, students and team leaders.

It was reported that the Republican Olympiad in Informatics among higher school students  was held in two stages.

The first stage of the Olympiad held at Baku Engineering University on April 29, 2018 was attended by 62 teams from 25 higher education institutions of the republic and the second (final) stage - 14 teams, which showed best results, among  from 14 higher education institutions,.

In the first and second (final) stages of the Olympiad, the tasks provided by the relevant information system (10-12 questions) were resolved within 5 hours.

The final stage of the Olympiad was held by using the material and technical base of the Institute of Information Technologies of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.

The 1st place was awarded to Baku Engineering University, 2nd place went to ADA University, 3rd place to Baku State University and 4th place to the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Baku Higher Oil School, Azerbaijan Technical University, Azerbaijan State Agrarian University, Baku Branch of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov were awarded excellence certificate.

The winners were awarded honorary certificates and diplomas of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies, as well as valuable prizes from sponsors of the Olympiad – companies NAR and BestComp Group.
