A unique implant is able to improve memory November 15, 2017 | 09:20 / Technological innovations

A revolutionary brain implant was developed by specialists from the University of Southern California. It stimulates the brain area associated with learning and memory. Thanks to the implant, the participants in the experiment began to do much better job with the task for memory, writes The Daily Mail.

The study involved 20 people with epilepsy, who had electrodes targeted at the hippocampus (memory center) in the brain. Volunteers performed the task for short-term memory. After training, the scientists built a model for the activity of the participants' neurons in the process of completing the assignment.

When the participants performed the task for the second time, the researchers stimulated their brain with the help of an implant, relying on the model. The study showed that thanks to brain stimulation, participants began to cope with the task 30% better. Experts hope that the new method will help people with memory impairments.
